What do I need to make an accurate kundali?
Three things: birth date, birth time to the minute, and birthplace. Time matters most — the lagna changes sign about every two hours and house positions move with it. If the time is approximate, the Moon sign and nakshatra usually survive but the lagna may not.
What is the lagna and why is it the centre of the chart?
The lagna (ascendant) is the zodiac degree rising on the eastern horizon at your birth moment and place. Every house is counted from it, so it personalises the sky: two babies born the same hour in different cities get different charts.
What are Rahu and Ketu?
The Moon’s orbital nodes — mathematical points where eclipses occur — treated as shadow planets. They sit exactly opposite each other and carry karmic significations: Rahu amplifies worldly desire, Ketu detachment. Their axis position drives doshas like Kaal Sarp.
Which ayanamsa and house system does this use?
Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa — the Indian official standard — with whole-sign houses counted from the lagna, the classical jyotish convention. Different ayanamsas shift everything by fractions of a degree and matter only for planets at sign boundaries.
Can a calculator replace a jyotishi?

If your time is uncertain, rectification by an astrologer (matching life events) is the traditional fix.
North Indian or South Indian chart style — does it matter?
Only presentation — both draw the same planetary positions; North style fixes houses in a diamond layout, South style fixes signs in a square. The underlying computation (sidereal longitudes, lagna) is identical. Pick the style your family or astrologer reads.
