How the conjunction is detected

  • Orb — the absolute angular separation between the two longitudes, in degrees. Under about 8° is read as a close conjunction; beyond roughly 12° most texts no longer count it as a conjunction at all.
  • House and rashi — the sign the conjunction falls in, and the house counted from the ascendant (lagna).
