Formula & methodology

Formula: D1 position = sidereal longitude (tropical − Lahiri ayanamsa); Varga D-n maps each 30°/n arc to a sign

  1. Enter birth date, time and coordinates with UTC offset.
  2. Tropical positions (Meeus Sun/Moon, Standish planets) are converted to sidereal with the Lahiri ayanamsa.
  3. The ascendant is computed from local sidereal time and latitude.
  4. The D1 Rashi chart is rendered: lagna, Moon nakshatra-pada, tithi and the 9 planet placements that seed every higher Varga.

What does this calculator return?

Why is D1 the most important chart?

Which ayanamsa is used?
Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the Indian government standard. That keeps sign and nakshatra placements consistent with drik panchang and most professional software.
How accurate are the planet positions?
