A user born 5 May 2010 has the Moon at 15° Taurus — inside Rohini nakshatra, whose lord is Venus (20-year Mahadasha). They want every Antardasha from birth to the present.

Result: Rohini spans 10°00′–23°20′ Taurus, so the Moon at 15° Taurus is 5°00′ (300′) into the 13°20′ (800′) nakshatra; the unelapsed share is 500/800 = 0.625, giving a Venus Mahadasha balance of 20 × 0.625 = 12.5 years from birth. Antardashas within it: Venus–Venus 3y 4m (ends 5 Sep 2013), Venus–Sun 1y (ends 5 Sep 2014), Venus–Moon 1y 8m (ends 5 May 2016), Venus–Mars 1y 2m (ends 5 Jul 2017), Venus–Rahu 3y (ends 5 Jul 2020), then Venus–Jupiter — cut short when Venus Mahadasha ends on 5 Nov 2022. Sun Mahadasha (6 years) begins that day: Sun–Sun lasts 6×6/120 = 0.3y ≈ 3 months 18 days (ends ~23 Feb 2023), then Sun–Moon runs 6×10/120 = 0.5y = 6 months (~23 Aug 2023).

What this means: The example shows why software dates can surprise: a Mahadasha boundary truncates the final Antardasha mid-sequence. Near boundaries, even a small birth-time error shifts every later date, which is why the calculator also accepts a corrected birth time and flags boundary-adjacent results.

How Antardasha periods are computed

The calculator first finds the Moon's nakshatra at the birth moment (Moon longitude ÷ 13°20′). The nakshatra's ruling lord sets the birth Mahadasha — Rohini, for example, belongs to Venus — and the balance of that Mahadasha is the unelapsed share of the nakshatra: (13°20′ − elapsed arc) ÷ 13°20′ × the lord's years (20 for Venus).

Each Mahadasha is then subdivided into nine Antardashas in the fixed lord order Ketu → Venus → Sun → Moon → Mars → Rahu → Jupiter → Saturn → Mercury, with each Antardasha lasting (Mahadasha lord's years × Antardasha lord's years) ÷ 120. Inside a 20-year Venus Mahadasha, Venus–Venus runs 3 years 4 months and Venus–Sun exactly 1 year.

When the birth balance ends mid-sequence, the next Mahadasha begins immediately and its Antardasha cycle starts from its own lord. Small differences in ayanamsa or birth time move every boundary, so dates near a boundary deserve a second look.
