Vastu Colour Calculator | Room Colors by Direction

The Vastu Colour Calculator maps a room's direction to its ruling element and suggests colour palettes: North (water — blues/greens), East (air — whites/light blues), South-East (fire — warm tones), South (Mars — reds sparingly), South-West (earth — earthy yellows/browns), West (Saturn — greys/blues), North-West (air — whites/greys) and Centre (space — neutrals), with colours to avoid per direction.

public Location matters

Tithi and nakshatra boundaries depend on where you are — enter your city's coordinates for precise results.

schedule Ayanamsa

Calculations use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard for Vedic charts.

Results follow drik-panchang style astronomical computation, not printed-table approximation.

school Traditions differ

Some regions use Surya Siddhanta conventions; where traditions conflict, your family panchang wins.

Pooja room facing North-East (Ishanya).

Result: Element: water+space — palette white, light yellow, soft blue; avoid red and black. Marble or cream altars suit best.

What this means: Keep the ceiling white and lighting warm-white; heavy dark doors would counter the light, open quality Ishanya needs.

Formula & methodology

Formula: Tithi = ⌊(Moon−Sun elongation) ÷ 12°⌋; Nakshatra = ⌊Moon longitude ÷ 13°20'⌋; Vimshottari lord sequence Ketu→Venus→Sun→Moon→Mars→Rahu→Jupiter→Saturn→Mercury

How the Vedic calculation works

All Hindu calculators on CalcaTools share one astronomical runtime: Julian-day conversion, mean planetary longitudes, Lahiri ayanamsa, then derivation of tithi (Moon−Sun elongation ÷ 12°), nakshatra (Moon longitude ÷ 13°20'), rashi (Moon sign), and the Vimshottari dasha sequence (Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17 years) anchored at the birth nakshatra's lord.

Festival dates use tabulated panchang data; muhurat windows use sunrise/sunset plus planetary day-lord hours. Default location is Delhi (28.61°N, 77.21°E, IST) unless you enter coordinates — a birth 500 km west shifts nakshatra boundaries in edge cases, so exact coordinates matter for precision work.

Frequently asked questions

Which colour is best for a North-facing room?
Water-element blues and greens suit North — the direction of Kubera and wealth flow; avoid heavy reds and browns that 'dam' the water element.
What colours suit a South-West master bedroom?
Earth tones — warm beige, terracotta, muted yellows — ground the stability element; avoid stark blue and black which destabilise the earth prana.
Is red allowed in Vastu homes?
Yes, in South/South-East zones as the fire element's colour — kitchen accents or a puja room door; a full red bedroom wall in the North works against the direction's element.
Does ceiling colour matter in Vastu?
Traditionally ceilings stay white or light — heavy dark ceilings press 'weight' on occupants; this applies across all directions.
