Formula: cos(H) = cos(90.833°)⁄(cos φ · cos δ) − tan φ · tan δ

How does the sunrise sunset calculator work?
It uses the NOAA solar-position algorithm with a −0.833° horizon (atmospheric refraction plus the sun’s radius) to compute sunrise, solar noon, sunset and day length for your date and coordinates.
What latitude and longitude should I enter?
Use decimal degrees: latitude positive for north, longitude positive for east (so New York is 40.71, −74.01). You can copy these from any map app.
Why do I need the UTC offset?
Day length is the same regardless of timezone, but the clock times of sunrise and sunset depend on your UTC offset; leave it blank to use your device’s offset.
What is solar noon?
Solar noon is when the sun is highest in the sky and due south (north in the southern hemisphere); it is rarely exactly 12:00 because of longitude and the equation of time.
What happens near the poles?
Above about 66.5° latitude the sun can stay up all day (midnight sun) or never rise (polar night); the calculator reports these cases instead of a time.
