Vastu Direction Calculator | Room Placement Guide

The Vastu Direction Calculator maps room types to ideal placements: kitchen South-East (Agni), master bedroom South-West (stability), pooja North-East (Ishanya), study North-East/East, safe South-West, guest North-West — and flags which placements shift when the house faces a given direction.

public Location matters

Tithi and nakshatra boundaries depend on where you are — enter your city's coordinates for precise results.

schedule Ayanamsa

Calculations use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard for Vedic charts.

Results follow drik-panchang style astronomical computation, not printed-table approximation.

school Traditions differ

Some regions use Surya Siddhanta conventions; where traditions conflict, your family panchang wins.

lightbulb A real example — East-facing 2BHK

East-facing flat; deciding kitchen and master bedroom.

Result: Kitchen → South-East corner (cook facing East); master → South-West; the North-East corner stays light for the pooja/sitting nook.

What this means: When structure forces a wrong corner (e.g., NW kitchen), sub-remedies — stove placement to the room's SE, colours, de-cluttering — soften the dosha.

Formula & methodology

Formula: Tithi = ⌊(Moon−Sun elongation) ÷ 12°⌋; Nakshatra = ⌊Moon longitude ÷ 13°20'⌋; Vimshottari lord sequence Ketu→Venus→Sun→Moon→Mars→Rahu→Jupiter→Saturn→Mercury

How the Vedic calculation works

All Hindu calculators on CalcaTools share one astronomical runtime: Julian-day conversion, mean planetary longitudes, Lahiri ayanamsa, then derivation of tithi (Moon−Sun elongation ÷ 12°), nakshatra (Moon longitude ÷ 13°20'), rashi (Moon sign), and the Vimshottari dasha sequence (Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17 years) anchored at the birth nakshatra's lord.

Festival dates use tabulated panchang data; muhurat windows use sunrise/sunset plus planetary day-lord hours. Default location is Delhi (28.61°N, 77.21°E, IST) unless you enter coordinates — a birth 500 km west shifts nakshatra boundaries in edge cases, so exact coordinates matter for precision work.

Frequently asked questions

Which direction should the kitchen face?
South-East (Agni's corner) is ideal, with the cook facing East; North-West is the common alternative when SE is impossible.
Which direction is best for the master bedroom?
South-West — the stability corner ruled by Earth — promoting deep sleep and relationship steadiness; couples avoid North-East bedrooms in classical advice.
Where should the pooja room be?
North-East (Ishanya) — the corner of divine grace; idols face West or East so the worshipper faces East or West respectively.
Does house facing change room placement?
The direction-to-room map is fixed by compass, not by entrance; facing mainly affects where the entrance padas fall and which rooms are practical to place where.
