Formula & methodology

Formula: Daily Cost = (Wattage ÷ 1000) × Hours Used × Electricity Rate per kWh. Monthly Cost = Daily Cost × Days in Month. Annual = Daily Cost × 365.

How appliance cost is calculated

The tool applies cost = wattage ÷ 1,000 × hours × rate for each appliance, then sums the daily figures and scales them to monthly and yearly totals. Enter the wattage from the nameplate (or amps × volts) and your average daily usage.

Example: a 1,500 W space heater for 4 hours at $0.15/kWh costs 1.5 × 4 × 0.15 = $0.90 per day, about $27 monthly.

Reading the result: the appliance-by-appliance breakdown shows where the bill really goes — heating, cooling, water heating, and the fridge dominate, while standby devices add a silent 5–10%. Modeling usage changes shows the savings potential of each efficiency upgrade before you invest.
