lightbulb A real-world example — a semester with mixed grades
Result: Semester GPA: 3.51. The PE pass/fail course doesn't enter the GPA calculation. Quality points: 16 (A in Calc II) + 9.9 (B+ in English) + 12 (B in Chem) + 11.1 (A- in History) = 49.0. Divided by 14 graded credits = 3.50.
What this means: Some schools weight honors/AP courses on a 5.0 scale; others round differently for repeats. If your school uses a non-standard scale (3.5, +/- system, or A+ = 4.3), enter the points manually rather than using the letter dropdown. Always sanity-check with your registrar's official transcript.
Formula & methodology
Formula: GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) / Σ credits
Each course contributes grade points multiplied by credit hours. Weighted classes may use school-specific rules, so compare against your institution's published scale.
