GPA Planner Calculator | Project Your Graduation GPA

Project your final GPA from current average, completed credits, and the credits you have left — and see exactly what average you need in remaining courses to hit your graduation target. The weighted math shows whether your goal is still attainable and how hard the remaining semesters must be.

Project the average GPA needed on remaining credits to reach a target cumulative GPA.

How this tool works

The projection compares current quality points with the target quality points across completed and remaining credits. Grading and repeat-course rules vary by school.

Frequently asked questions

What does a GPA planner calculate?

It estimates the average GPA needed across remaining credits to reach a target cumulative GPA.

Does it work with a 4.0 scale?

Yes. Enter the maximum scale used by your school, such as 4.0, and use compatible GPA values.

Does it account for repeated courses?

No. Repeat-course treatment differs by institution, so repeated-credit scenarios should be checked against school rules.

Can I still reach a target GPA?

The result indicates whether the required remaining average is within the selected maximum scale.

Why do credits matter?

Completed credits determine how strongly the existing GPA affects the final cumulative result.

Is this an official academic record?

No. It is a planning estimate and should be verified with your registrar or academic advisor.

lightbulb Worked example

A student with 3.2 GPA over 60 credits, 30 credits remaining, target 3.5.

Result: Target 3.5 is not reachable; max final GPA with all A's is about 3.47.

Formula & methodology

Formula: Required GPA = (Target Total Points − Current Points) ÷ Remaining Credits, where Points = GPA × Credits. Total Points = Current GPA × Completed Credits + Required GPA × Remaining Credits.

How the GPA projection is calculated

The tool applies the weighted-average formula: required remaining GPA = (target × total credits − current GPA × completed credits) ÷ remaining credits. It treats completed credits as fixed history and solves for the average needed across everything still ahead.

Example: with a 3.2 over 60 credits, 30 remaining, and a 3.5 target, the required average is (3.5×90 − 3.2×60) ÷ 30 = 4.1 — above the 4.0 scale, so the target is unattainable.

Reading the result: the closer you are to graduation, the less influence remaining courses have — the formula shows exactly why late recovery is hard. The tool flags targets above the scale so you can adjust expectations realistically before planning your remaining semesters.
