Formula & methodology
Formula: Cost = (watts ÷ 1000) × hours per day × rate per kWh
Electricity cost is energy used times your tariff. Energy in kilowatt-hours is the appliance's wattage times the hours it runs, divided by 1,000.
- Enter the appliance power in watts.
- Enter how many hours per day it runs.
- Enter your electricity rate in dollars per kWh.
- The calculator finds daily kWh and multiplies by the rate for the cost.
Worked example: A 1,000 W appliance for 5 hours at $0.15/kWh costs 5 kWh × $0.15 = $0.75 per day.
