mosque Calculated to Shariah-compliant formulas
Every Islamic calculator on CalcaTools uses formulas from recognised Shariah authorities — the Hilal Committee's Hijri conversion tables, the MWL/ISNA/Umm al-Qura prayer-time methods, the four-school consensus for Zakat Nisab, and the Faraid distribution rules from classical fiqh. The exact authority is cited on every tool page.
menu_book Sunni & Shia rules side by side
For tools where the calculation differs between schools (Faraid inheritance, certain Zakat triggers, prayer-time conventions), we surface the choice as a selector and document the difference in the methodology block. Pick the school that matches your tradition — the answer adjusts.
savings Zakat with the live Nisab
Zakat tools fetch the current spot gold/silver price (or let you enter your local rate) so the Nisab threshold reflects today's value, not a stale figure from last year. The 2.5% rate is the standard hawl-based calculation; agricultural Zakat (1/10 or 1/20) is available on the dedicated Ushr calculator.
verified For guidance, not a fatwa
These calculators give you the number — they do not give a fatwa. For complex personal situations (inheritance with revoked rights, mixed-asset Zakat, late prayer makeup rules), please confirm with a qualified scholar in your tradition. We're here to help with the arithmetic, not to replace your local imam.
Interpretation guide
| Your net wealth | Status |
|---|---|
| Below silver nisab | No Zakat due |
| Between silver and gold nisab | Zakat due on the silver basis (majority recommendation) |
| Above gold nisab | Zakat due on either basis |
| Held a full lunar year | The hawl condition — required for liability |
lightbulb A real-world example — checking if you owe Zakat in 2026
Result: Gold Nisab = $6,561 (87.48g × $75). Silver Nisab = $581 (612.36g × $0.95). At $7,200, you exceed both — you owe Zakat (2.5% = $180).
What this means: There are two Nisab values; most contemporary scholars use the silver Nisab for the safer, more inclusive standard because it's lower (more people will be liable). If you sit between the two thresholds and only use gold-Nisab, you avoid liability but also forfeit the spiritual benefit. The math is the easy part — the choice of Nisab reference is a fiqh question for your local scholar.
Formula & methodology
Formula: Nisab = 87.48 g × gold price/g, or 612.36 g × silver price/g
- Look up today’s gold and silver price per gram in your currency.
- Enter both prices.
- The tool multiplies by 87.48 g (gold) and 612.36 g (silver).
- Compare your net zakatable wealth against the chosen threshold.
Example: gold $85/g → $7,435.80; silver $1.10/g → $673.60. Wealth of $10,000 exceeds both.
