The Islamic year begins on 1 Muharram — the month the Hijra calendar is anchored to — and because twelve lunar months run 354–355 days, it arrives about 11 days earlier on the Gregorian calendar every year. This converter uses the official Umm al-Qura month table for 1440–1500 AH, so its dates match the published Saudi calendar exactly, with the standard tabular calendar as a fallback outside that range.
