What Hijri year is it now?
Mid-2026 sits at the end of 1447 AH (which runs 27 Jun 2025 – 16 Jun 2026); 1448 AH begins around 17 June 2026. The tool defaults to today’s Hijri year automatically.
Why are Islamic months 29 or 30 days?
A lunar month (new moon to new moon) averages 29.53 days, so calendar months alternate 29/30. Twelve of them give 354–355 days — about 11 short of the solar year.
Tabular calendar vs moon sighting — what’s the difference?
The tabular calendar fixes month lengths arithmetically (30-year cycle with 11 leap years) for civil planning; religious observance follows actual sighting and can differ by a day. This tool uses the tabular system.
What are the sacred months?
Muharram, Rajab, Dhu al-Qa’dah and Dhu al-Hijjah — four months in which warfare was prohibited and good deeds carry extra weight (Quran 9:36). The year view shows where they fall.
Why do Ramadan dates differ between sources?
Different methodologies: Umm al-Qura (Saudi), regional sighting committees and pure astronomy can disagree by a day on borderline crescents. Tabular dates are the consistent planning baseline.
