Formula & methodology

Formula: Score = (15·positives − 12·tantrums + deed bonus + age modifier) ÷ 1.4, clamped 0–100

  1. Rate the candidate on kindness, tidiness, manners, sharing and tantrums.
  2. Add the biggest good (or not-so-good) deed of the year and the age group.
  3. The score lands on a 0–100 scale with Santa’s official verdict.

Worked example: top marks on every virtue with a rescue-level good deed scores 100/100 — "Definitely on the NICE list"; the same child with daily tantrums drops to the bubble zone.

Frequently asked questions

Is the naughty or nice calculator real?
It’s a fun family game — a playful score from the virtues you enter, not an actual feed into the North Pole database. Santa’s official list remains classified.
How is the score calculated?
Kindness, tidiness, manners and sharing add points; tantrums subtract; the year’s biggest deed gives up to +20; and an age modifier cuts toddlers some slack. The total is scaled to 0–100.
Can grown-ups take the test?
Absolutely — select "adult". Be warned: there’s no toddler grace at that level, and "did nothing special this year" earns no deed bonus.
My child scored "on the bubble" — now what?
The verdict comes with advice: a strong final week of December (extra kindness, tidy room, zero tantrums) historically moves bubble cases onto the Nice list.
Does Santa really keep a list?
Tradition (and the 1934 song) says he’s checking it twice. This calculator is the at-home practice version — results are for festive entertainment only.
