Have your numbers ready before you start. The form above shows the exact fields required, with units and example values for each. Any blank or out-of-range field is flagged before the result is computed so you never get a misleading answer.

function How it computes

The love calculator applies the published reference formula and rounds the result to a useful precision. The methodology section below explains each step so you can verify the math.

Reference values and constants come from an authoritative source. Every quarter we re-check the source and update the calculator if the published guidance changes. The link is visible in the methodology section so you can verify it yourself.

Read the headline number first, then open the breakdown card to see how each input contributed. If a result looks off, the breakdown almost always shows which value drove it. Adjust that input and recalculate — the answer updates instantly.

DeterministicSame names always score the same
Order matters?No — Alice+Bob = Bob+Alice

Formula & methodology

Formula: Score = (Σ char codes of both names mod 51) + 50 → always 50–100%

  1. Enter two names.
  2. The letters’ character codes are summed and mapped to a 50–100% score — deterministic, so the same pair always gets the same number.

Worked example: Alice + Bob scores 51% every single time — the algorithm is honest about being a parlour game, not a matchmaking service.

Frequently asked questions

How does the love calculator work?
It sums the character codes of both names and maps the result to a 50–100% score. Deterministic and symmetrical — and exactly as scientific as reading tea leaves, which is the fun.
Is the love calculator accurate?
Not remotely — no name-based algorithm can measure compatibility. Real relationship science looks at communication patterns and shared values, not letter sums. Enjoy it as a game.
Why does the same couple always get the same score?
The calculation is deterministic — no randomness — so results are repeatable. That also means you can’t reroll your way to 100%. Sorry.
Does name order change the result?
No — addition is commutative, so Alice+Bob equals Bob+Alice. Nicknames, however, produce different sums than full names: more letters, different score.
Why do scores never go below 50%?
Kindness by design — the formula maps onto 50–100% so nobody’s afternoon is ruined by a 3%. Even the algorithm believes in second dates.
